Battleship 2025 Schedule and Want Ads

Battleship 2025 Schedule

Before June 21: Battleship 2024 tag claims

If you were on Team Tunnel or Team Crystal, you can claim a tag. If you were on Team Mermaid or Team Volcano and you completed two or more treats during the anon period, you can claim a tag. If you guessed a board 2 rule correctly, as verified by the Spreadsheet Fairy, you can claim a tag. If you made two or more gifts for giftless/treatless people, as verified when your work was accepted into your team's collection, you can claim a tag. These claims stack! Please claim your tags here.

June 21–25: Tag suggestions
June 23–July 9: Fandom/ship nominations
June 30–July 9: Sign-ups (may close early if we hit our sign-up cap)
No later than July 11: Team assignments
July 12: Game begins

As is traditional, the mods will attempt to keep the game going for three weeks, and the players will probably manage to finish it within two and a half.

During sign-ups, there may be a "paddling pool" mini-game to introduce new players to the joys of Battleship. If we do this, it will wrap up before July 11 so there are no distractions from the main game.

Battleship Mods Wanted!

The 2025 Battleship mod team consists of team captains gaialux, lailah_tov, Leaf/Tavina, and Soulstoned; spreadsheet wizards Firebird/Asymptotical and Eirvyan; and... maybe you!

We're looking for additional mods to help us put on the best possible game. These roles are neutral; mods other than team captains will not be on teams or play the game. However, you can still put in requests, get gifts, and make treats that don't count toward team progress.

What we need:

1) At least one art mod. Before the game, help us improve our art scoring system. (Last year's system is described under "Playing the Game: Scoring" in the 2024 rules.) During the game, make authoritative calls about how to score artworks. You don't need to be an artist, but experience with a system of quantifying art in some way (like scoring it for another game or defining different commission tiers) would be very helpful.

2) At least two spreadsheet fairies. Before the game, help to improve our existing team and mod spreadsheets. During the game, check works, call shots, and help troubleshoot spreadsheet issues. Our sheets primarily run on array formulas. You don't need to be a spreadsheet genius, but a fair amount of experience with Google Sheets would be very helpful.

3) At least one puzzle maker. Before the game, help to design puzzles that the teams will be trying to solve. Past puzzles include classic Battleship, Minesweeper, and other variations on the theme of targeting grid squares to find what's hidden underneath. Puzzles must be solvable through team effort and team strategy, not something that one person can solve independently, and must be fair but not identical from one team to the next. It's a fun challenge!

All mods will also help handle Discord moderation (usually minor). We would especially love to bring on at least one mod who's in a GMT+0 to GMT+5 time zone. Mods will ideally be able to put in at least a couple of hours of active modding a day during the game (July 12 to early August) at a relatively consistent time.

Please email battleshipexchange@gmail.com if you're interested. Let us know your availability before and during the game, and your relevant experience. We'll get back to you by June 2nd. Thank you for helping us run one of the best events in fandom!

Voiceteam 2025 Round 3

UNCHAINED MELODY:
Create filks with your team's theme song.

Point value: 35 points for each player who contributes.

BUY YOURSELF FLOWERS:
Listen to an audio fanwork of yours and write yourself a comment of all the things you love about it. You don't have to share it, but you could—it would probably make a pretty good self-rec!

Point value: 20 points per comment.

BE HERE NOW:
Sit down to record an audio fanwork without having done any pre-planning for what you will record. Choose the fandom and story only after you are all set up to record. Follow your whims in that exact moment! Choosing off a pre-made list is okay, but it must either be a list you created before this challenge began or a list created by somebody else.

Point value: 35 points for each player who contributes.

NICK OF TIME:
Finish and submit an audio fanwork you began before this round of Voiceteam started. The work cannot have been previously submitted for Voiceteam points.

Point value: 35 points for each player who contributes.

Thank you to carboncopies for suggesting this challenge!

IN THEIR SHOES:
Record something featuring a favourite thing (ship, character, trope, audio format, story element) of one of your team members. The team member in question may not contribute to this work for points.

Point value: 35 points for each player who contributes.

Thanks to Jetainia for this challenge idea!

From Mystery Box 2020

INSPIRED BY:
Create a fanwork inspired by an existing audio fanwork made by someone on your team. Your fanwork could be audio, visual, a poem, acting out a scene with hand puppets, or whatever you want.

Point value: 20 points for each player who contributes, +20 points if it requires significant time, effort, or energy on your part.

From Voiceteam 2021

BACK UP YOUR JUNK:
Choose 10 of your already-posted audio fanworks and add links to one other hosting website to extend longevity of the fanwork. (If you haven't posted 10 podfics, you get the points for adding additional links to all the ones you have posted.) Bonus points for every 5 podfics you back up beyond the original 10.

Posting a fanwork that has been submitted for Voiceteam but not yet posted is a valid interpretation of backing up that fanwork.

Point value: 30 points for the first set of audio fanworks backed up. +10 points for every 5 additional audio fanworks backed up.

Thanks to Jocunda Sykes for suggesting this challenge!

From Mystery Box 2022

TALK BACK:
Either live-listen to or live-record an audio fanwork with at least one other Voiceteam player. Then co-record some kind of live audio response to the audio fanwork you just experienced together. The audio response must be at least 5 minutes long and could be a discussion of the story, a notfic prequel/sequel/story that happens between scenes, a reaction to the podfic itself, or something else.

Point value: 25 points for an audio response to a shared listening experience. 45 points for submitting a shared recording experience plus audio response.

From Voiceteam 2023

YOUR MISSION, SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT:
Complete your team's mission. Bonus for guessing other teams' missions. Bigger bonus for keeping your own mission secret.

(You will find your team's mission ten minutes from now in your team channels. You know where.)

Point value: 35 points for each fanwork submitted that contributes to your mission. If your team correctly guesses another team's mission, every team member who contributed to your team's mission earns 10 points. If no other team correctly guesses your team's mission, every team member who contributed to the mission earns 50 points.

This challenge is taking the place of the Mod Dare in Round 3.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY:
Combine two or more previous Voiceteam challenges.

Point value: Base of 20 points for a non-audio-fanwork project that combines at least two challenges, or 35 points for an audio fanwork that combines at least two challenges. Bonuses of +10 points if the project combines at least five challenges, +15 points if it combines at least ten challenges, or +20 points if it combines at least fifteen challenges. (Bonuses do not stack.)

Thanks to Schittposting and SerenaEW for inspiring this challenge. And happy fifth Voiceteam anniversary to us all!
